I Totally Didn't See That Coming!

Okay, up until last night, I totally thought that she was going to choose Jason. You know the nice, safe, dependable guy who has an adventurous side? The one with the adorable child? And the steady job? Who knew that DeAnna would follow her heart and go with the guy who wore pink shoe laces, lives in "Breck" and kind of wants to be a sports agent or something when he grows up?

But yet....they seem incredibly happy. And funnily enough, I'm happy for them. DeAnna went outside her comfort zone in what she thought she wanted and followed her heart which led her to Jesse, the dude who wanted to be friends first, but who the entire time told her things like "I'm totally into you." He even conceded during the "After the Final Rose" special that it was kind of a strategy that he waited until his hometown date to kiss her. By that time, girlfriend was dying for it.

Jesse is the kind of guy who kind of sneaks up on you. He's the guy that most women would dismiss as a future spouse because he seems like the comic reading, child-man, that most women at a certain point overlook because they are looking, like DeAnna, for the guy who looks good on paper. The Jeremy's and the Jason's of the world. Poor Jason though. The poor guy just looked devastated, even 3 months later. Although, his ex-wife must have pissed off to hear him say that he had never felt this way before, not even for her! Hmm, maybe that's why she left him for another man?

I think Jason would make a much better Bachelor than Jeremy but I doubt that he would want to put himself or his son through this again. Unless of course, they film the show in his hometown. That would be great, send 25 women to rainy Seattle and see how they cope! The hair issue alone would freak out some women. But seriously since he's a single dad, let the women come into his environment. Although subject poor Ty to 25 women cooing over him might be sensory overload and wharp the poor child for life.

I have a good feeling about DeAnna and Jesse. The fact that they have actually set a wedding date says that they are serious, plus they now have a trip to Greece for their honeymoon!

Question: Do we think Brad gets a residual for everytime they say his name on air? I must have counted at leasat 25 mentions of Brad Womack last night. Can we put the guy to rest now?

Question: Do we think that Jeremy was waiting around in the Bahamas for DeAnna to come back? I mean, why couldn't she have had this conversation with him that night after the Rose ceremony, when she let him go? And seriously after that conversation, why did he need more closure at the Men Tell All special? His conference call after the show was pretty interesting. You can read here.

Didn't you love how DeAnna's father practically ordered both men to bring her home to visit often if they move away? What do you want to be that Jesse's sport agenting will be in Atlanta? Or he gets a job with the Braves or the Falcons? I hope he likes his new short hair because he'll be wearing it that way for the rest of his life.

In the long run, Jesse comes to DeAnna unencumbered with baggage. No ex-wife, no child. He's never been married, so he'll let DeAnna have the big wedding of her dreams. He can move closer to her family because there is no custody arrangement to worry about. Plus he puts her first whereas Jason will always have to put Ty's needs first. Jeremy was right about that one.

So let's break some plates for Jesse and DeAnna!

PS - Both Matt and Jesse gave their significant others cute nicknames during the show which should have been a clue.

Bloggin the Bachelorette

I knew it! DeAnna kicked Jeremy to the curb. And she said exactly what I was thinking, that just because they shared the experience of having a dead parent, that wasn't enough of a foundation to build a relationship on. I really wonder how many long term relationships Jeremy has had in his life, particularly if this is the first time that he's really let himself love someone. I would suggest that Jeremy see a therapist to deal with all the residual feelings that he has about his parents deaths. I don't think I have ever seen a guy so devastated at being let go. For a moment, when he stopped the limo, I thought he was going to go back and beg DeAnna to change her mind.

Just watching her on the fantasy dates, you could see who she had the most chemistry with. With Jason, they already seem like a couple, they have a similar outlook on life, he has a steady job, and he's dependable. Jesse is the wildcard, the guy that she never in her life has been attracted to. He's a daredevil, he has no plans really for his life after snowboarding. He gave her that whole big speech about as long as he's happy, everything will work out. Umm, and how exactly do you pay the rent with that? I did like that they talked about where they would live, since he seems to move around a lot according to the seasons. Interesting how last week, he wasn't ready to get married in 2 weeks and now he is, and DeAnna has changed her time table on the kid thing.

Then we moved on to the Men Tell All special. Can I just say that this was probably the first time in a long time that stuff actually happened on this episode? Mainly because of Ryan, the contentious Christian virgin. Seriously where did that chip on his shoulder come from? I wanted to ask him, "Do you talk to Jesus with that mouth?" Calling DeAnna, Obsessive-Compulsive DeAnna? Really dude, get over the fact that she didn't choose you. With your judgemental attitude (so Christian), you two would never have suited.

Can they find a way to use Chris Harrison more effectively? Because the dude is funny! Loved him asking DeAnna if perhaps she had been too hard on the guys because after all they are guys! And telling Graham that he should have just shut up and kissed DeAnna when she asked and made a statement later. And the outtakes when he was talking to her about Sean and his mullet.

Poor Jeremy though, I don't think I've ever seen a guy so disliked as he was. Seriously if even Twilley is calling you a d'bag you might want to work on your social skills. And when DeAnna told him that she had fallen in love with Jason and Jesse and not him? That he was so good on paper but she just couldn't fallen in love. Ouch! Honesty might not always be the best policy. And Graham? Ooh boy, the way he and DeAnna went another round. Loved Chris Harrison's comments about the whole love/hate dynamic between the two of them. Graham's flippant and defensive and DeAnna gets pissed off.

The reason why I like to watch this show is because it totally showcases the different ways that men and women communicate. Graham said that his actions spoke louder than his words, but clearly they didn't otherwise he would still have been around. He went on about how bringing her to meet his family was a big step and she countered by saying it was part of the show, and he couldn't actually refuse it, and then he brings up he could refuse a rose.

It just makes me wonder how well we communicate when we are attracted to someone. I thought my actions towards cutie-pie author and Superman indicated how I felt, but maybe if I had spoken up and actually said the words out loud instead of just relying on my body language and short skirts, I might have a boyfriend right now and not still be single.

The Great Graham Debate

There's been a heated debate in the blogosphere on whether or not DeAnna Pappas made a mistake sending Graham Bunn packing on The Bachelorette.

Well, I think after reading this interview, people will change their minds about whether or not she threw away her chance at love. Read the last sentence carefully.

And they are back for more!

New York magazine has an excellent article here about Alex McCord and her husband Simon van Kampen. The couple that we love to hate are going to be back for another season of Bravo's Real Housewives of New York City (what a misnomer that is). You know what this means, more scenes of Alex and Simon shopping and cavorting on the beach in St. Bart's in matching thongs. Who cried last night at The Bachelorette? I know I did, pretty much all the way through the episode (I know I'm a sap). The tears pretty much started when Jesse's mother Wilma talked about how they tried for 12 years to have a baby before they finally gave up and she got pregnant with Jesse, whose name means gift from god. I worry though because DeAnna has that magical time table and Jesse looks like the type of guy who would want to date for awhile (say a couple of years) before having a wedding on a beach or a ski slope. I just don't see her fitting into his life for the long haul but I do see why she digs him. Loved his comment about how kissing is special. If only more men felt that way.

Jeremy bugs me for some reason. He's just too perfect (drink a shot every time DeAnna talks about how perfect he is. Drunk yet?). Perfect house, perfect job, perfect body, perfect dog. There's something a little off there. And what's with leaving your bar exam notes up on the wall? I can understand the bond they have over losing a parent (ex cutie-pie and I had the same thing) but I don't see any other bond between the two of them. Its one thing to show off pictures of your parents, its another to then read from your personal diary about your mother's death. There was something slightly creepy about the whole thing. I'm just saying. DeAnna mentions that she wants to fall in love with him, which means that she hasn't even come close.

Okay, I have made it perfectly clear that I am a Jason fan. I think he's wonderful, fun, understanding, and has the most adorable little boy who he loves to bits. How can you not fall in love with a guy who loves his son as much as Jason does? And his family is great as well. I felt they were the most welcoming of all the families. I really enjoyed the conversation that Jason had with his Mom about opening up his heart even though his ex-wife sliced it open and left him bleeding.

And finally there is Graham. It broke my heart to see DeAnna let him go instead of say Jesse but I understand her reluctance to keep him in the hope that maybe he just might open up. She just had too many doubts about him, and it didn't help that his mother admitted that a) he's a loner who doesn't let people too close and b) he hasn't had a relationship that lasted longer than 4 weeks. And seriously DeAnna Bunn? You just know that she was thinking, if she married him, she'd have to keep her last name. I really felt for her when at first Graham seemed so open and affectionate, and then he just shut down after they left his parents house. It was such a sharp contrast to the other guys. And the fact that he couldn't tell her what was bothering him, whether it was worrying about the other guys, or just not wanting to let her go, he couldn't give her anything. I think that if Graham had given her the note that he had written at that point instead of after she booted him, he would still be on the show. He just waited too long.

Of course she had to bring up Brad's name (take a shot everytime DeAnna mentions that Brad broke her heart or led her on. Drunk yet?). How sad was it that she told him that he was the one man that she was falling in love with, and he said nothing?

Blogging the Bachelorette

Forgive me if this blog post isn't too coherent. I came home late last night after watching a documentary on a contemporary sculptor Louise Bourgeois, who is pretty cool, and then I acted like an idiot with cutie pie author, so I wasn't really in the mood when I got home last night to watch 2 hours of this thing. Plus it was hot yesterday. It has been 95 degrees for the past four days. But I'm nothing if not dedicated, so I cranked up the AC and watched The Bachelorette on my DVR.

>With A Song In My Heart - Normally this is the point in the show when the guys have to write heartfelt letters to The Bachelorette in order to get some face time. Mike Weiss and the producers went one better and decided that not only did the guys have to write lyrics but they also had to sing to DeAnna which made most of the guys shake in their boots. Except for Robert who is supremely overconfident. Graham said that he would rather 'eat glass.' I pretty much fast forwarded through this bit until it came to Jesse who won DeAnna's heart by reading his poem while holding her hand and staring into her eyes. DeAnna awarded him the one-on-one date. A suit was delivered to the mansion, so that Jesse wouldn't wear one of his crazy outfits on their date. He looked good, but I wish that he had pulled his hair back into a ponytail instead of leaving it messy and loose. It's too bad that Ron couldn't have cut Jesse's hair before he got booted last week. At the Wiltern, DeAnna forces Jesse to repeat his song and then they have dinner. They talk and Jesse opens up about being there for DeAnna. I still don't see any physical chemistry between the two of them. Natasha Bedingfield comes out and sings to them and they dance. Jesse gets the rose.

Bloggin the Bachelorette

A whole lot happened in the world of The Bachelorette. I don't think I've ever seen the show where it was two hours long every freaking week. Either ABC doesn't have a whole lot of programming for the summer or they really want to give DeAnna her due in her quest to find true love.


Mullet Man No More - Martial artist Sean from Kentucky or Tennessee or wherever he's from finally got with the program and got a haircut this week, which DeAnna seemed to like. Now ABC needs to send him to a stylist to get him into a dark, tailored suit instead of the hideous suits like the white striped one he wore last night and he might actually be someone she could take home without cringing. Perhaps Billy Ray Cyrus could get the name of Sean's barber. And who exactly cut his hair? I don't remember them getting time out to go get haircuts. Do we think that the hairstylist on Ellen DeGenere's show helped him out?


Urban Cowboy- DeAnna took the guys on a Western themed date, where they learned (or tried to learn) how to do the two-step. Everyone took a turn on the mechanical bull, which snowboarder Jesse excelled at, which was kind of surprising since don't Graham and Jeremy come from Texas? DeAnna decided to test the guys and fake an injury to see which guy was the most concerned about her. All the guys came rushing over to help except Ron, who stood there with his beer like the jerk that he is.

He proved later in the episode what a jerk he was by not only complaining once again about Jeremy but telling DeAnna during the cocktail party that he woke up not feeling her. He countered by saying that he got a case of the "DeAnna's" later on but it was too late for Barber Boy.

Special guest star - The guys got the third degree from special guest star Ellen DeGeneres, DeAnna's new best friend, who got to hand out a rose to Fred (who is adorable with his Chicago accent) and gave DeAnna some advice, particularly about Graham, whose longest relationship was 5 months. Call me madcap but if a guy is 28 and his longest relationship is 5 months, that could be a problem. Does he have the staying power? He told DeAnna later it was because he moved around a lot because of his impressive basketball career.


Magic carriage ride... to the airport - My favorite Richard tried to impress DeAnna on his solo date with her, but she couldn't tell whether or not they were friends or something more. They went on a magical carriage ride like the one from Disneyland, in fact I think it was Cinderella's coach from Disneyland, and DeAnna made the driver pull over on the street so she can dump him. She told him that while he had all the qualities she looked for in a husband, but she wasn't feeling him. She didn't want to keep him around if she didn't see it going anywhere. This was when we had our first Brad reference of the evening, as DeAnna said in a voiceover that she didn't want to pull a Brad. Richard got into the conveniently waiting cab to go home.

Truthfully, I think in the real world, DeAnna might have fallen for Richard over time, but unfortunately my Richard isn't the time of guy to be all aggressive with a woman. He lacked confidence and I think it showed, particularly when she told Chris how she liked the fact that Jeremy was a little cocky. Perhaps if Richard had gone in and grabbed the kiss, things might have turned out differently.

Jason's big secret - DeAnna took Jason on a romantic date to the observatory which would have been the perfect date for Richard, the science teacher, since they had had a conversation about stars on their date. Seriously who plans these things? Jason finally told DeAnna that he's got a three year old son named Tyler. She opened up about the death of her mother which she told him that no one had ever asked her before. What kind of guys has she dated? They bonded and Jason went in for the kiss after asking politely for one. Later, DeAnna had a star named after Jason's son, which was really sweet of her. I wonder if she paid for it herself or the network did?


The Rose Ceremony - During the cocktail portion of the evening, DeAnna gave Ron one last chance to dig a hole for himself as they sit outside. She told him that she was cold, but Ron didn't take the hint and offer her his jacket like every other guy did that night. Can you say jerk?

Jesse showed up in a suit and tie which didn't look half bad on him, although he too needs a haircut, stat. How did he escape getting one when Sean got rid of his mullet?

The Rose Ceremony - Ron and Paul go bye-bye but seriously how is Twilley still there?

Tuesday Talk

Had a fab Memorial Day weekend, hanging out with the Megan and her friends at her warming of the house. Hard to believe that National is less than two months away, kind of freaking out about it. What to wear, budgeting my money to do fun San Francisco things, etc. Also went to see Iron Man on Sunday. Really liked it, but I wanted more and I'm not sure what. Maybe because it was the first movie, I wanted a little more about the relationship between Obediah and Stark. Loved Robert Downey jr. and Jeff Bridges though. Even Gwynnie was fine. Thought it was hysterical, her trying to run away from Jeff Bridges wearing platform stilettos.

Now its back to the grind of work and by work, I mean revisions on the WIP. I'm up to 50,000 words (175 pages) and I have about a month to write the other 175 pages of the book. I'm figuring that the book should run about 350 pages. Lots more fun things to write about in terms of college life in the 19th century.

Also have more interviews in the works for both blogs. Right now on Scandalous Women, I have an interview with Paula Uruburu, the author of American Eve, about Evelyn Nesbit and Stanford White. I'm pretty proud of it, and I hope everyone will stop by and take a look. In the meantime, I can't believe that I have written 900 posts on this blog! Where has the time gone? It seems impossible to me that I could have written so much.

So on to the Bachelorette. I need to check my bank balance to see about getting a laptop so that I can live blog this thing, because its so much better when you are in the moment. So everyone is hating on Jeremy because he got a second impression rose from DeAnna and he gets to stay in the house another week. Dudes, whatever he's got it, its working because girlfriend is seriously smitten with him. Found it interesting that she kept Graham since the guy has had only one serious relationship in his life and he's almost thirty.

Jason seriously needs to tell DeAnna about his son, and I'm surprised that he didn't tell her during the party before the rose ceremony. I have a feeling from the preview that when he does tell her on their one on one date, it doesn't go well, since he waited so long. Then again, I'm been burned by the previews before where it looks like the guy is going home, and he doesn't (or girl, remember her bad overnight date with Matt which then turned out well for her, after she took off her panties!). I really like Jason and I admire his love for his son, although you have to wonder about him leaving the kid to go on a reality dating show.

I'm also glad that Fred, Jesse and Richard are still in the running but what was the deal with Twilley? Seriously, she kept him over virgin Ryan who was at least hot? And she never found out that he was a virgin, although maybe the whole faith thing turned her off. You knew Greek boy was going since every word out of his mouth was about him and her being Greek. Seriously dude, George Stephanopolous is Greek too, and he married a WASP, it can be done. You don't need to scour the earth for your Greek bride, although it might make a funny reality TV show.

I like the whole idea of the guys getting to live in the house with DeAnna but considering that these episodes are 2 hours long, it might have been nice to see some more interaction of DeAnna with the guys in the house. Unless it all takes place off camera. Thought the whole bunk bed situation was awesome, and the outdoor shower.

I'm really liking this Bachelorette primarily because while DeAnna is serious about it, she's also in it to have fun as well. Does anyone remember how painful Jen Scheft's season was? Although I have to admit while I was watching Tommy LaSorda at Dodger stadium, I kept waiting for him to offer the guys some Slimfast.

How hysterical was it that Chris, the guy who played minor league ball, couldn't hit? Thought his explanation that he was a pitcher hilarious. Must have played for the American League. Chef boy Robert flaming out was pretty cool too. Is it just me or did Jeremy seem fake when he was telling DeAnna about his parents death? I'm going to have to watch him more closely.
